Miami Hurricanes Cheerleaders

The University of Miami has a long tradition of cheerleading since its founding in 1925. With five National Championships in football, and countless Bowl and NCAA Basketball Tournament appearances, the spirit program has been a vital part of the athletic program at UM.
The cheerleading program at Miami consists of two teams, the coed team with 15 members and the all-girl team which is made up of 15 females. The teams cheer at football games and men's and women's basketball games. Cheerleaders may also travel to away football games and post-season play.
The University's dance team, known as the Sunsations, was founded in 1985 as entertainment for basketball games. Since its inception the group has developed into one of the best dance teams in the nation. The team consists of 15 ladies who perform pom and stylized dances at home football games, in addition to men's and women's basketball games.
The UM Cheerleaders and Sunsations are a major public relations arm of the University and participate in various athletic and University events and countless community service projects throughout the year.
Cheerleaders and Sunsations at UM are treated as all athletes at the University with access to tutors, trainers and medical staff. A small book stipend is also awarded to some members of the teams.
