he Bulldog Cheerleading Experience
The place to be this fall on Saturday afternoons is Athens, Georgia. There, "BETWEEN THE HEDGES," you will find the Georgia Cheerleaders cheering on the Dawgs in front of 92,000+ screaming fans! Our Cheerleaders also have the best seats in the house for UGA Men's and Women's Basketball games, UGA Volleyball matches and UGA Gym Dog Gymnastics meets! We want YOU to join us. Come find out why "IT'S GREAT TO BE A GEORGIA BULLDOG!"
A long tradition of excellence defines the UGA Spirit Program supported by one of the strongest Athletic Associations in the nation. Dedicated to cheering the Dawgs to victory, these athletes work extremely hard year round. Cheering for football, basketball, volleyball and gymnastics at the University of Georgia is both mentally and physically demanding. Our program outlines strict rules for academic and athletic excellence to which all participants must adhere. The training regimen consists of weight training, aerobic conditioning and scheduled cheer practices. Our program inspires young men and women who pride themselves as exemplary student-athletes, both in the classroom and on and off the field and court, to be the best that they can be.

Our Spirit Program currently consists of 2 Small Co-Ed Cheerleading squads (each composed of Co-Ed and All-Girl Cheerleaders), 2 Hairy Dog Mascots, 2 Spike Mascots and 1 Mic Person.
Co-Ed Cheerleading
The Co-Ed Cheerleading program at UGA consists of 6 - 8 couples who cheer at all home football games, specified away football games, specified bowl games, home men's and women's basketball games, specified basketball tournaments, home volleyball matches, home gymnastics meets and other athletic events, as assigned.

Competition
The University of Georgia currently competes with an All-Girl Competition cheerleading squad at UCA College Nationals in Orlando, FL in January. The All-Girl Competition squad is comprised of the top female members from both the Co-Ed and All-Girl Cheerleading squads. Members of this squad still cheer for all required UGA athletic events, and practices for competition are in addition to regular spirit squad practices. Tryouts for the All-Girl Competition squad will be by invitation only and members of this squad will be announced after regular spirit squad tryouts have taken place. January, 2009 was just the second time UGA ever sent an All-Girl Competition squad to compete at UCA College Nationals and the squad placed 7th in the nation for Division I All-Girl squads.
Mascots
Our costumed mascots consist of 2 Hairy Dog mascots and 2 Spike mascots. Hairy Dog performs at all home and away football games, bowl games, home men's and women's basketball games, basketball tournaments, home gymnastics meets, and other athletic events, as assigned. Spike performs at all home volleyball matches, home men's and women's basketball games and other athletic events, as assigned.
Mic Person
We have 1 mic person who attends all home football games, selected away football games and bowl games, selected home basketball games and selected home gymnastics meets. The purpose of the Mic Person is to lead the UGA student section, as well as the entire Bulldog Nation, in cheers.

Members named to the All-Girl Competition cheerleading squad will also receive an additional stipend after UCA College Nationals for their efforts on this squad.
Practice Schedule
Our year begins in the summer with a pre-camp workshop and a weekend at college camp. Once we return from camp, we continue with a week of 2-a-day practices, leading up to the start of the school year. Once classes are in session, regular spirit squad practices are held 3 times per week. Strength and conditioning training takes place an additional 2 - 3 times per week. All members of the Spirit Program will need to be available for practices and weights/conditioning in the mornings between 7:00 - 9:00 AM and in the evenings from 7:00 - 9:30 PM.
